Garth Drinkall and Annia Zalewski have been working for 1818 Auctioneers, near Kendal, since 2017. Annia, 31, from Overton, near Lancaster, is in charge of textiles, vintage clothing and accessories while Garth is en route to becoming the firm’s expert on mid-century modern furniture. Both are responsible for antiques, vintage and collectables auctions which take place three times a month. Garth and Annia’s training programme involves carrying out professional valuations under supervision, producing customer reports and writing magazine articles and post-sale reports. They are also studying courses run by professional bodies within the industry. “They’ll get a well-rounded experience of how the business is run, from front-of-shop to behind the scenes, as well as the finances,” says saleroom manager Bill Nelson.
