LARA Dwight Govan Dwight Govan spent 35 years in the elevator industry before he joined LARA in 2012 as a General Elevator Inspector in the Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC). In 1975, he began his career as an apprentice and, seven years later, became a journeyman where he worked in construction, service and maintenance. Dwight spent the next nearly three decades working for several major companies in the industry including, Haughton, Schindler, Thyssen Krupp, and Westinghouse. He retired in 2010 as an elevator maintenance mechanic but since he still had a desire to be a part of the industry, Dwight joined the State of Michigan as a general elevator inspector two years later. His current duties include inspecting the conditions and all parts of elevator equipment to ensure safe operations of public and private elevators and escalators. He also ensures elevator equipment meets the safety codes for the State of Michigan with certificates of compliance or non-compliance being iss
