Exhibit Columbus to open August 21

Courtesy of Ben Valentine-Exhibit Columbus COLUMBUS, Ind. – The third Exhibit Columbus showcase will open to the public on August 21. The outdoor display will feature 13 site-responsive installations by a diversity of architects, artists, and designers, publicly displayed photography, and fresh graphic identity. The exhibition will remain open through November 28. The theme of Exhibit Columbus this year is New Middles: From Main Street to Megalopolis, What Is the Future of the Middle City? Curated by Iker Gil and Mimi Zeiger,  New Middles explores the future of the center of the U.S. and the regions connected by the Mississippi Watershed, an area that stretches beyond political borders.

Curated by Architect Iker Gil and critic Mimi Zeiger the third iteration of Exhibit Columbus expands on a theme fit for the current social climate,  New Middles. Bustler, and our sister site Archinect, are the official media sponsors for Exhibit Columbus Design Presentations this year. Exhibit Columbus installation The Exchange by Oyler Wu Collaborative headed to Taiwan The Exchange was fabricated by hand in Los Angeles, California by Oyler Wu with support from Ayoroa|Simmons, Baller Hardware, M&K Metal Co., and Noblitt Fabricating. COLUMBUS IN .- The 2017 J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize-winning installation “The Exchange will be decommissioned over the next few days from its location at the Irwin Conference Center and then shipped to Taiwan where it has been acquired into a private collection. “This has been one of the most popular installations from our exhibitions, and while we are sad to see it go, we are delighted to see it have another significant life,” said Anne Surak, Director of Exhibit Columbus. “Our community really embraced this installation over the years. We’ve seen it used in so many incredible ways — as a workspace for Cummins employees to a backdrop for live performances, wedding photos, family portraits, and company pictures.�

The Exchange being dismantled to ship out Staff Reports Workers from Ignition Arts of Indianapolis, which has worked alongside local arts-oriented agencies on projects for several years, have been dismantling the Exhibit Columbus architectural installation The Exchange in recent days. The popular piece from Los Angeles-based Oyler Wu Collaborative was among the Miller Prize winning installations for the inaugural Exhibit Columbus exhibition in 2017, and has remained on site at the Irwin Conference Center at Fifth and Washington streets downtown since then. Workers began the disassembly on Tuesday, and should be finished within a few days, according to Anne Surak, Exhibit Columbus director.
