Previously signed in 2016, this formal MoU builds upon a long history of collaboration and an
established partnership between the two institutions.
The resigning of the Memorandum of Understanding by Paul Hannigan, President LYIT and Anne McHugh, Chief Executive Donegal ETB, will greatly benefit the North West region with both organisations continuing to build on collaborations.
The overall objective is to provide for enhanced progression opportunities and pathways for learners consistent with the National Further Education and Training Strategy, 2020-2024.
New progression routes and pathways have been developed over the past 5 years that provide opportunities for those living and working in the region and facilitates more seamless progression routes between programmes provided by Donegal ETB and LYIT and has identified gaps in provision and opportunities for new programmes linked to recognised national and regional skills needs.
Letterkenny man catches top job with Donegal ETB
LETTERKENNY man Andy McGovern has been appointed by Donegal ETB as its new Director of Organisation Support and Development (OSD).
Mr McGovern replaced Mr Jim McGlynn who retired at the end of December. He has been working at Letterkenny Institute of Technology as Finance Manager for twenty-two years.
A former student of St Eunan’s College Andy attended Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York on a soccer scholarship where he graduated with a degree in public accounting, before going on to qualify as an accountant. He began his career at accounting firm KPMG in Stamford, Connecticut and on his return to Ireland, worked for the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Department of Finance in Dublin.
Career included many changes in Donegal ETB
When Jim McGlynn completed his Leaving Certificate Examinations in 1977 his goal, like many of his peers of that time, was to get a secure, permanent and pensionable job.
The attractions of a dependable salary, pension entitlements and the chance of promotion with one employer drew the young Glenfin man towards the Donegal Vocational Education Committee (VEC).
Together with Paddy Gallagher, Finola Furey, Frankie Quinn, Patrick Doherty and the fondly remembered Patsy Breslin RIP, he made up what was later referred to as “The Class of ‘78”.

Last week, Jim (61) attended his final meeting of the Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB), which replaced the former VEC in 2013, before his retirement at the end of the year.
