Organizations vying for local funds from a landmark settlement with the pharmaceutical companies that abetted the national opioid epidemic will soon have their proposals reviewed by a special committee.
ASHEBORO - Studies show a high increase in mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, calling for local organizations to introduce two new urgent care services.
Daymark Recovery Service provides various outpatient and psychiatric services for mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. The institution will now cater to pressing concerns 24/7 with their new Behavioral Health Urgent Care and Facility-Based Crisis Centers.
Chief Information Officer Jerold Greer said they already had these programs in surrounding counties and saw a need in Asheboro.
According to Greer, the state has local management entities and managed care organizations such as Sandhills Center, which drives the programs. Sandhills manages public mental health in nine counties, including Randolph County, with a budget allocated to funding and developing mental health services.

ABC Darien program seeks residential directors

ABC Board Co-President Susan Wilson said the job is “an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of eight really motivated, hard-working, wonderful young ladies.”
The program has seen 52 participants attend four-year college programs, most of them the first in their families.
The program is accepting applications for resident directors for the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year and to continue as resident directors for the 2021-22 academic year.
