Dec 16 (Reuters) - Finland is preparing to support national carrier Finnair with an unsecured hybrid loan of up to 400 million euros ($486 million), the company said on Wednesday.
The Finnish government said the COVID-19 pandemic’s second wave had led to a slower than expected recovery in air traffic, resulting in heavy losses for Finnair as it operates at around 10% of normal capacity.
“The state is committed to acting as a responsible anchor owner for Finnair,” Tytti Tuppurainen, the minister in charge of state ownership policies, said in a statement.
“Finland’s geographic location is challenging and therefore we will not manage without functioning air connections.”

HELSINKI, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Public meetings of more than 20 people will be banned in the region of Finland’s capital, Helsinki, to combat a rise in novel coronavirus infections, authorities said on Friday.
While Finland’s 14-day average of new coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants remains at Europe’s lowest level at 58, public health authorities said the rate was nearly twice as high in the capital region and thus the new restrictions were needed.
“The maximum number of people at indoor public events will be restricted to 20 in the capital region starting November 23 for three weeks,” Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori said.
