HYDERABAD: The state government on Tuesday ordered the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to provide free meals to people during the ongoing lockdown through the 250 Annapurna canteens located in various parts of the city.
The free meals programme will continue until further notice.
Arvind Kumar, principal secretary (municipal administration), said free food is being supplied on directions of minister K.T. Rama Rao.

New MAUD guidelines for Annapurna meals, sanitation and hygiene

Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) in the state has issued new guidelines concerning health, sanitation, public grievance redressal and Annapurna canteens.
The GHMC is directed to amend the Annapurna Canteens timings to provide meals at Rs.5 to the poor.
The authorities told the GHMC to provide night dinner during the lockdown to those staying in night shelters and orphanage houses including the migrant workers.
The Municipalities and Corporations in cities and districts are directed to ensure prompt redressal of the people’s grievances.

The Telangana government has decided to support the needy and migrant workers affected by the lockdown situation across the state. The Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department (MA & UD) on Wednesday issued certain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines pertaining to Annapurna Canteens, sanitation, grievance redressal, enforcement, and other social security aspects related to people.
The GHMC has directed Annapurna canteens to provide hygienic meals for Rs 5, including dinner, and to forego collecting even a token fee from beneficiaries, as well as to increase the number of meals and revise timings. Adding, the official also urged them to focus on provision of food to inmates of night shelters and orphanages. The Municipal authorities were directed to give high priority to the notified slums and places where migrant workers live.
