The city is considering moving one of its four police precincts raising alarm from nearby residents fearful of surging crime, according to a Jackson councilman.
Ward 1 Councilman Ashby Foote told his council colleagues Tuesday he feared the possible relocation of police precinct four from northeast Jackson to Northside Drive would cut down on police visibility and response times.
City officials are looking at moving the precinct, located in the Colonial Mart Shopping Center on Parkway Drive, to the old Batte Furniture Building about four miles away on Northside Drive. The precinct is one of four that covers the city.
