Multiple Norman community groups and local businesses have issued demands about how police should be funded in the cityâs FY22 budget ahead of Tuesday nightâs budget hearing.
The city council is slated to meet virtually at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and will hold public comment on the budget at the meetingâs end. Registration for public comment is open on the cityâs website.
A partnership between Norman Collective for Racial Justice, Red Dirt Collective and Social Injustice League of Norman joined together to create the âPeopleâs Budget Coalition,â a group calling for numerous demands regarding this yearâs final budget.

While the Oklahoma Legislature failed to enact a ban on conversion therapy, the Norman City Council could take a step toward adopting one Tuesday night.
Councilors will discuss an ordinance tonight at the request of the Norman Human Rights Commission to ban âthe use of city fundsâ to support or offer conversion therapy, a staff report shows.
Conversion therapy â the theory that religious, psychiatric or physical means can be used to change a personâs sexual orientation from LGBTQ to a heterosexual â has been called harmful and dangerous by the Human Rights Campaign, LGBTQ advocates and the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

The selection committee for the Ward 2 seat on Wednesday will interview five candidates for the position, none of whom ran for the seat in the February election.
Jay Wendorff and John Argo, two of the candidates in Februaryâs race, were not selected for interviews.
Wendorff received 42.74% of the vote against Matt McGarryâs 51.32% and John Argoâs 5.24% in the February election for the seat. McGarry resigned in March to take a teaching position with an Ivy League university, The Transcript reported.
Aleisha Karjala, chair of the Ward 2 selection committee, said all she can share âis that the committee chose the best five from the applicant pool to interview.â

Along with the devastating hail storm that ravaged much of Norman last week comes out-of-town roofing companies that go door to door trying to sell residents on their company.
But using an unregistered vendor leaves people susceptible to scams, fraud and possibly more damage to their house, experts say.
As of Monday, more than 60 roofing companies were listed as âpending approvalâ with the Oklahoma Construction Industry Board, while 15 companies have registered to be approved for door-to-door solicitation with the City of Norman, a spokesperson said.
