SMITHFIELD – Longtime Smithfield resident and political provocateur Al Costantino is suing Supt. Judy Paolucci, pictured, and the town of Smithfield for violating his civil rights after a no-trespass order issued from the district prevented him from voting on school property in the September primary.
Costantino, 71, is a disabled Vietnam veteran who is heavily involved in local politics and construction projects.
According to his complaint filed to the Providence County Superior Court on Nov. 6 by his attorney, Todd White, he was deprived of right to free speech and his rights and liberties when a no-trespass order was issued.
He adds that he was deprived of his right to public property and was not given the right to be heard before Paolucci issued the order. In addition, the complaint said that Costantino’s constitutional right to vote was interfered with, and Paolucci defamed him by posting his name and photo around the school with false and libelous information.
