April’s litany of farm attacks in South Africa includes four murders: A 54 year-old man shot to death, a mother and her adult son beaten to death with blunt instruments, and a 78 year-old wheelchair bound man strangled to death. He was in a wheelchair because of a previous attack 20 years ago.
A 78-year-old farmer fatally shot one of two attackers in Bishopstowe, outside of Pietermaritzburg, in the kwaZulu Natal province.
Reports say the farmer was attacked while working on a vehicle. When one of the attackers attempted to stab the farmer during a scuffle, the elderly man managed to fire the shot that ended one of the attacker’s life.

DURBAN - FIVE people will appear in the Howick Magistrateâs Court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Howick farmer, Trevor Murphy.
They were arrested in Pietermaritzburg on Monday morning. Murphy, 50, was at his residence on Wendover Farm in Karkloof when three men attacked him and stabbed him multiple times on Friday morning.
They robbed him of his cellphone, firearm, TV, groceries and laptops before they fled the scene in his Ford Ranger bakkie. Murphy died in hospital.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said Howick SAPS detectives, Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police Unit and security officers from Magma security, followed up on information that Murphyâs vehicle was spotted in the Pietermaritzburg CBD.
Farm murder: Manhunt to find suspects who killed mother and son
Police has expressed concern over the senseless killings of farmers. On Saturday, 24 April, two people were killed in another farm murder.
Mpumalanga police has launched a manhunt to find the suspects in connection with the tragic death of a mother and son in yet another farm murder.
Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the victims were killed at Valley Farm outside Nelspruit on Saturday, 24 April. The two victims has since been identified as Anna-Marie Botha and her son Rohn Britz.

“Police in Mpumalanga have launched a frantic manhunt following a heartless incident in which two people, a 56-year-old mother as well as her son aged 34, were murdered during a robbery. The sad incident occurred at a certain farm outside Nelspruit yesterday, Saturday 24 April 2021,” said Mdhluli.

a male and female were found lying motionless, he said. The

certified dead at the scene.
