STORRS, Conn. (AP) â UConn star Paige Bueckers spent a lot of 2020 in the ear of her good friend Azzi Fudd, pushing last year s top high school prospect to join her at Connecticut.
The Associated Press womenâs basketball player of the year even showed up at Fudd s home with a recruiting video that showed Bueckers in high school, making spectacular pass after spectacular pass.

A crucial piece for the UConn women will make her return to the court for the No. 1 Huskies this weekend. Sophomore guard Anna Makurat, who has missed UConn’s last 13 games, will be available for the Big East tournament, coach Geno Auriemma said Thursday. Makurat last played at Tennessee on Jan. 21 and has missed time ever since with a “lower leg” issue that SNY recently revealed was a stress .

STORRS, Conn. (AP) UConn sat leading scorer Paige Bueckers on Saturday to rest her injured ankle and the Huskies still won by 31 points.
Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 3 Connecticut to a 72-41 rout over an overmatched Georgetown team. Christyn Williams added 17 points, Aubrey Griffin scored 15 and Evina Westbrook added 13 points and nine assists.
The Huskies (10-0, 9-0 Big East), coming off a road win over rival Tennessee, were without both Bueckers, who rolled her right ankle in Thursday’s win over Tennessee and sophomore guard Anna Makurat, who is dealing with a nagging leg injury.

UConn has been able to play only seven games this season because of pandemic-related schedule changes, and that has put career milestones in perspective for coach Geno Auriemma.

Freshman Paige Bueckers scored 23 points and No. 3 UConn overcame a sluggish start to rout Providence 87-50 on Saturday to give Auriemma his 1,098th win. That ties the late Tennessee coach Pat Summitt for the second-most wins in Division I women’s basketball history behind Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer (1,104).
