Protesters call for more accountability in fight for racial justice Updated Mar 15, 2021; Facebook Share ANN ARBOR, MI On the anniversary of Breonna Taylor’s death, a group of protesters gathered on the Diag at the University of Michigan to call for more accountability from themselves and the community. Hosted by the nonprofit organization Survivors Speak, several dozen protesters listened to speakers talk about accountability within themselves and community members. Survivors Speak posted pictures of an accountability pledge on their Facebook page, which says community members will be proactive, educate themselves on the needs of the community, commit to racial equity and sound the alarm against racial and social injustices to promote the building of equity.

The University of Michigan’s Shapiro Undergraduate Library was temporarily closed after venomous spiders were found in the building. Three Mediterranean recluse spiders were found in the library’s basement storage areas in late January, university spokeswoman Kim Broekhuizen said. The spiders were not in any public spaces, Broekhuizen said, and the library was closed on Sunday, Feb. 21, and Monday, Feb. 22. Ann Arbor Public Schools students will begin returning to the classroom in a hybrid learning format beginning March 25.
