Mt. Hope police officer takes poetic license with DWIs
Jessica Cohen
Some of her own life’s strange turns led her to put her thoughts into poetry.
“When I was younger, sometimes what was awkward to say flowed into poetry,” she said.
One topic that led her to write a poem was drunk driving. She has done drunk-driving arrests and knows an officer who lost someone in a drunk-driving accident.
“DWI fatalities are too common. They should be zero,” she said. “People who drink can call Uber, a friend, or stay over where they are.”
To make her points more fully and memorably, she wrote a poem, transforming “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” into “’Twere the Nights Before Christmas.”
