BISMARCK An 85-year-old woman has admitted to killing a pedestrian last summer as she drove through Bismarck.
Bertha Sophie Harper of Bismarck pleaded guilty Wednesday, March 17, in Burleigh County District Court to felony counts of negligent homicide and failure to stop for a crash resulting in a death. Those charges are from a car-pedestrian crash around 3:15 p.m. June 3 near 2723 Gateway Ave. that killed 33-year-old Amber Rebel.
Harper is accused of fleeing the scene after hitting Rebel, who was walking on a sidewalk, prosecutor Anna Argenti said Wednesday. Rebel was taken to a hospital with serious injuries that worsened before the decision was made to take her off life support, Argenti said.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A judge has refused to dismiss felony charges against an 85-year-old Bismarck woman accused of negligent homicide in the death of a pedestrian.
The defense argued that prosecutors are treating the case differently than a similar one 13 years ago. Bertha Harper was charged last June following the death of 33-year-old Amber Rebel.
Defense attorney Tom Dickson asked South Central District Judge Daniel Borgen to dismiss the case Monday, saying the Burleigh County State’s Attorney’s Office practices selective prosecution, the Bismarck Tribune reported.
