WILMINGTON Ann Noble Powers Smith, 102, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021.
She was born on July 23, 1918, at Bullock Hospital in downtown Wilmington to U.S. Navy Captain Kinchen James Powers and Hattie Noble Powers.
In 1935, she graduated from New Hanover High School. With the exception of the three years spent at Catawba College, she was a lifelong resident of Wilmington.
In 1937 her family moved to the 2400 block of Market Street, which was considered to be in the country. Her work history included being employed by the Wilmington Housing Authority and then becoming the manager of Lake Village Housing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge H. Winfield Smith; brother, K.J. Powers Jr., sister, Harriett P. Bizzell; and nephew, Dr. Eustace Bizzell.
