July 16 2021 Valerie Chapman describes happened to the Park Avenue Community Development Plan tabled by Clackamas County commissioners As the chair of the Park Avenue Community Advisory Committee (PACAC), I would like to share my perspective regarding the recently completed, and tabled, Park Avenue Community Project (Development and Design Standards). In spring 2019, Clackamas County sought volunteers from among residents, businesses and property owners in the half-mile around the Park Avenue light-rail station to be part of a community advisory committee that would propose standards for development in the rail station area. Development of the area has been considered previously, however, this time a group of citizens applied for and received a $180,000 grant from Metro 2040 funds to support a community centered development plan with a focus on stakeholder engagement.

THE photographs in this week’s trip down West Fife’s Memory Lane feature some of the popular cafes that used to operate in Dunfermline. The first photograph shows ‘The Brunswick Café’ that was situated in Carnegie Drive across from the bus station where Tesco is today.  Ann Muir remembers her time working there: “I worked there during my school years for Antonia and Luigi Pellicci. I remember being called ‘lassie’ which was the usual description/roar to all female staff – I can still swear in Italian fluently too. Used to love the homemade roast beef cooked with loads of garlic. The ice cream was the best in town. They were both grafters with the café open from 7am until 9pm seven days a week.”
