Cases involving fatalities at the hands of police have garnered increased scrutiny since the murder of George Floyd last May.
There have been 42 fatal shootings by police officers in Massachusetts since 2015, as tracked by a Washington Post database. More than 6,300 people have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers in the U.S. since 2015.
The rate of shootings has remained steady, reports The Washington Post. Nearly 1,000 people die every year in police incidents. This means, on average, two to three people die every day in encounters with police.
