NORTH SMITHFIELD – A community garden that’s been a topic of discussion for several years is finally coming to the former Halliwell Memorial School after town officials gave it the green light this week.
Ann Lilley, a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, pitched the idea to members of the Town Council on Monday. Lilley proposed building the garden in a vacant area between the former “cafetorium” and a classroom building. The garden, she said, would be constructed using layers of cardboard and compost that would be easy to remove or relocate in the future.
