ann joins me now. i m going to put a little hint on it. here is president obama from his state of the union. what s happening in detroit can happen in other industries. a few weeks ago the ceo of master lock told me it now makes business sense for him to bring jobs back home. today, for the first time in 15 years, masterlocks plant in milwaukee is running at full capacity. all right. explain why i played that sound bite. if you didn t know it, we know the president is going to milwaukee to visit the masterlock plant. it s kind of a twofer for the president. milwaukee is an important swing state in the election. i m sure for the white house is this company which has unionized workers has been adding jobs. the owner says it s been doing so because the cost of labor
it was her final legislative act before she resigned on wednesday. well, it was an energized mitt romney who showed up, not willing to give newt gingrich any breathing room. that prompted rick santorum to insert himself back into the debate. can we set aside that newt was a member of congress and used the skills that he developed as a member of congress to go out and advise companies? and that s not the worst thing in the world and that mitt romney is a wealthy guy because he worked hard and you guys leave that alone and focus on the issues. michelle bernard is here, and ann kornblut, and welcome all. i want to start out with the basics of the debate. do you think mitt romney i say game on.
milk for the baby it is no wonder michelle obama is telling everything you better breast feed your babies, i m going you better, because the price of milk is so high right now. ann kornblut is the washington post reporter, this is an interesting issue you not withstanding the two issues we showed, women don t necessarily divide along predictable ideological lines on this issue. progressives say don t force me to breast feed, i want to be a working mom, i want to make my own decision and conservative moms, notwithstanding the two we showed said breast feeding is very important and it should be enkournld. there have been conservatives applauding michelle obama for coming out and taking what you could a sue a more traditional stand on what maternal behavior should be. we should probably correct the record and say this is not government forcing women to breast feed. what is this about? buying breast pumps. this is about a tax credit and give all kinds of tax credits for all kinds of
president clinton over with the chief executives of honeywell and bank of america. so timed this way, the white house is saying we re really funding the business. we have them over all the time. interesting. does any of this have to do with the fact that bush tax cuts are about to expire? i mean there is a nervousness about the tax situation. you re seeing that we just don t have revenues. and the chamber is saying that s part of what is creating this uncertainty. you have the tax cuts set to expire. what is congress going to do? so again, it s this question of is that causing ceos to hold back a little bit? you ve got other issues, too. we re still consumer demand is still incredibly low. there is no reason for a factory to ramp up production if there are not people on the other end who are going to buy things. we have a huge financial cross-ice witness the credit crunch. people don t know if banks are actually going to lend them credit. so they re going to hold on to more cash.
