The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in Mobile, during its 30th anniversary week, honored its founder Ann Bedsole, the first woman ever elected to the Alabama State Senate with an honorary degree during a luncheon at the school's cafeteria.
Bedsole, 93, was the first woman elected to the Alabama State Senate in 1982. During her tenure in office, she is credited with the founding of the Alabama School for Mathematics and Science. The school, based in Mobile, celebrates its 30th anniversary this week.
