Controlled burns coming to Ann Arbor area rain gardens this spring
Updated Feb 26, 2021;
ANN ARBOR, MI Controlled burns are scheduled for spring in several rain gardens across Ann Arbor.
The controlled burns are scheduled for Miller Avenue between Newport and Maple roads, Belize Park, Stone School Road between Ellsworth and I-94 and Arbor Oaks Park, according to Washtenaw County officials.
A rain garden is a shallow garden of shrubs and flowers that are native to the region, and are designed to collect water and filter it back into the soil, which naturally treats polluted storm water runoff.
Controlled burns help reduce invasive species and encourage native plants to thrive.
