The pairing of Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman in a Ma Rainey s Black Bottom â which debuts Friday, Dec. 18, on Netflix â would be a big deal on its own merits. The fact that the story of a hot-tempered blues singer butting heads with an ambitious trumpeter is Boseman s last on-screen performance makes it that much more noteworthy.
