Rawlings will be buried on January 27
The Military Cemetery at Burma Camp has been settled on as the place of internment for late President Jerry John Rawlings.
Speaking at a press conference to announce arrangement for Rawlings’s funeral, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that he will be buried at the Military Cemetery.
As per the arrangement read by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the funeral activities will begin on January 22 with a series of traditional events by the Anlo Traditional Council at Anlo.
There will be a Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral on January 24 after which a vigil will be held in honour of Rawlings at the Airforce Base at 6pm.
The mortal remains of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings will be interred at the Military Cemetery at Burma Camp in Accra, Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
The late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza VIII, Paramount Chief of the Tefle Traditional Area of the Volta Region is asking for the mortal remains of the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings to be buried at his residence in Tefle.
This, the Chief explained, was the desire of the former President when he was alive.
According to him, the late President Rawlings once expressed the desire that if he dies, he should be buried at his property in Tefle.
Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza’s appeal was contained in a statement signed and issued to the members of the Rawlings funeral committee, family members including Rawlings’s wife and children.
