At the age of 15, I diagnosed myself with a perpetual case of writer’s block. A potential remedy flashed before my eyes as I was scrolling through Facebook one afternoon in 2017: “Vibe: Applications Open!” I knew journalism would be a difficult task, but perhaps leaping beyond my comfort zone was just what I needed to tackle my apprehension of words. Compiling my few less-than-impressive works of middle school writing, I decided to apply.
To my surprise, I received an acceptance call later that month. Over the three years that followed, I witnessed my severed relationship with writing heal, and take wings. Writing, and most importantly journalism, guided me to unfamiliar landscapes and helped me discover myself in the process.
