By Shamindra Ferdinando The Catholic Church yesterday (28) warned the government of dire consequences unless tangible measures were taken to neutralize the continuing threat posed by 2019 Easter Sunday mastermind Zahran Hashim’s followers. Serious threats remained even two years after the 2019 Easter Sunday carnage, Rev Father Cyril Gamini Fernando, parish priest of St. Anne’s Church, Kurana, said in his Sunday sermon. Reminding the congregation that the Katuwapitiya Church targeted by a Zahran follower was situated just a couple of miles away from St. Anne’s Church, Rev. Fernando said that in addition to those who had pledged to mount suicide attacks being still at large, there were religious extremists roaming the country and thousands of swords and draggers imported into the country in the run-up to the Easter carnage were still unaccounted for.

Work-to rule by pilots cause severe disruptions to SriLankan flight operations

A group of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs held a protest in Colombo on Thursday urging the government to repatriate Sri Lankan migrant workers and other citizens stranded overseas without further delay. A work-to-rule campaign by the Pilots Guild of SriLankan Airlines has caused disruptions to the airline’s operations. The pilots are protesting against lack of a dedicated treatment facility for members who test positive for COVID-19 as a number of Sri Lankan staff members, including a pilot, have tested COVID-19 positive. The airline has said, in a media statement, it has requested such a facility from the relevant authorities and is hopeful that its request would be granted.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on the directive of Attorney General Dappula de Livera arrested four Directors of Edirisinghe Trust Investments (ETI) Finance on charges of Criminal Misappropriation, cheating, money laundering and other offences at ETI Finance yesterday. They are Jeewaka Edirisinghe, Anjali Edirisinghe, Asanka Edirisinghe and Nalaka Edirisinghe,
