Kim Kardashian knows the power of a good cry
I am highly sensitive. You may think that means I get more offended than most, but it’s so much more than that. I blush ridiculously easily, I can’t bear the noise of people all talking at once (or kids shouting), I hate confrontation and the idea of watching a horror movie is my worst nightmare – the feeling of fear stays with me for days.
I also well up at the very thought of others suffering – and the tears aren’t just reserved for sadness, they will burst forth at a beautiful sight or if I’m feeling particularly lucky or happy.

Try the Core Master
I’m hoping for a six-pack thanks to this, devised by trainer Dean Varga. It looks like a wobble board with a ball in the middle and handles. You do a range of exercises on it, from press-ups to planks. The instability means your core gets a harder, deeper workout. £149.95, thecoremaster.co.uk.

Fermented drinks that help your microbiome are set to boom. Remedy Kombucha (from £1.99, from Tesco), a sweet tea full of live bacteria, tastes great without the usual sugary hit of fizzy drinks. And my favourite, Agua de Madre Kefir Water (£23.70 for six bottles, aguademadre.co.uk) is made with fermented cactus.
I have always been a voracious reader. I love reading non-fiction and although I started contemplating picking back my old habit of reading fiction works especially after reading Obama s memoir and learning about how novels have shaped his personality as a leader, I still find the idea challenging.
As a doctoral researcher I do spend a tremendous amount of time reading into my academic field (identity studies and critical discourse analysis) but that is not the kind of reading I want to share with you today. Instead I want to invite you into the reading world I built outside my academic niche. Those are books I read or listen to during my free time (usually when I am running or travelling). I love to immerse myself into all sorts of non-fiction books from self-help books to memoirs. In 2020 I read or listened to more than 40 books and below are the eight titles I enjoyed the most. As of right now, I am half way through Susan Cain s wonderful book Quiet: The Power of Introvert
