Two wild dog babies join Alipore Zoo family The pups are being fondled by the keepers who are feeding them milk and chicken
Two dhole (also called Asiatic wild dog) puppies, born at Alipore Zoo on December 22 last year, were displayed for the first time on Saturday.
The dhole (Cuon alpinus) is an average sized canine found throughout the forest tracts of India.
Two pairs of dholes were brought to the zoo from Visakhapatnam in 2019. One of the females gave birth to a litter of four puppies. But two of the puppies did not survive. The remaining two, a male and a female, were weak and shifted to the zoo hospital.

A desert gecko from Namibia has brilliant glow-in-the-dark markings that shine neon green by the light of the moon. The mechanism that produces its glow has never been seen before in land animals with backbones.
Web-footed geckos (
Pachydactylus rangei) have translucent skin with large, yellowish markings: stripes on their sides and rings surrounding their eyes. But those markings light up brightly when they absorb the moon s bluer light.
Fluorescence when light is absorbed and then emitted at a longer wavelength has been found in other reptiles and amphibians, produced by their bones or by chemical secretions in their skin. However, web-footed geckos generate their light using skin pigment cells that are filled with guanine crystals.

HOUSTON – The Houston Zoo brought twice the good news as two pygmy marmosets made their official debut Wednesday.
The two babies were born on Nov. 14, to 7-year-old mom, Teek, who is also a first-time mom, according to the zoo.
Zoo officials said the pygmy marmoset family spent the past few months bonding behind the scenes before making their first debut in the rainforest canopy inside of their Natural Encounters Building last week.
