By Rachel Conner-Hill echorachelc Chief Reporter (Tees Valley & North Yorkshire) Anil Varma, consultant neuro-surgeon, and theatre sister Sarah Morley with the C2 Explore A NORTH-East hospital has a new state-of-the-art machine to assist with brain surgery. The cortical stimulator was bought by James Cook University Hospital thanks to a £23,646 donation from the South Tees Hospitals Charity. The C2 Explore, which can be used to map the functioning of the brain, especially the areas controlling the movement and speech, is helpful in performing safer surgery, ensuring preservation of functional areas of the brain and also prevents the need for patients to be referred to other centres.
