Ice jams on the Kuskokwim River flooded Red Devil and Crooked Creek over the weekend. By Monday morning, the jams may be backing high water up into Napaimute as the ice front reaches Aniak.
The openers are June 29 to June 30, and July 3 to July 4. Residents must keep their set nets near the riverbanks where Chinook and chum are less likely to swim.
No gillnet openings have been announced for the lower Kuskokwim River after the opening on June 16. The 12-hour opening runs 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from the river’s mouth, upstream to Aniak. The waters upstream of Aniak opened to gillnets full-time on June 12.
