Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced on Friday that the Gauteng province was in the grip of a Covid-19 third wave. “Having seen over 1 000 cases a day we cannot afford to close down the province s economy but we definitely want to see an increase in restrictions,” said Makhura. Harmony said on Friday that its net profit would climb between R5.7 billion and R5.9bn – up between 325 and 339 percent from a year earlier, also buoyed by higher production and foreign exchange translation gains. The group said net profit for the interim was estimated to be between 283 and 297 percent higher at between $349 million (R5.12bn) and $361m, compared with a year earlier.
