Klang hospital to get capacity boost with more beds and equipment

PETALING JAYA: Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang will receive 60 more beds and additional equipment estimated to cost RM1.1mil to increase its capacity. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said on Thursday (July 8) that a field hospital with a capacity of 50 beds would also be set up through the cooperation of the Armed Forces and HTAR. It was reported that HTAR was overwhelmed by the number of Covid-19 patients, with many having to park outside its emergency department in the past few days. Dr Adham added that the Health Ministry was increasing bed capacity at intensive care units (ICU) of its hospitals and training staff on how to deal with the worsening Covid-19 situation here.

Ministry aims to increase capacity of healthcare facilities

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry is pumping in resources to bolster healthcare capacity in the Klang Valley, said Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba. This comes as the capacity in healthcare facilities – including the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment centre – reached their limits. The Health Minister noted that the number of patients referred to MAEPS had greatly increased with the centre now receiving 800 new patients daily on average and 200 Category 4 patients on average. “Out of 5,198 beds in MAEPS, the 154 beds allocated for Category 4 patients have exceeded maximum capacity. “The remaining beds for Category 1, 2 and 3 patients are also nearing the limit,” he said as he announced a slew of measures that the Health Ministry is taking to address the dire situation.
