KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 ― Umno veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah wants his party to end its partnership with PAS under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) banner and go all out to take back the seats and states won by the Islamist party at the next general election.

RUMOURS about MPs willing to jump parties are passionately debated among individuals who are interested in politics. Attempts to lure and even to bribe the lawmakers have been reported. The numbers keep rising. The fact is, party-hopping often happens when there is a change in political leadership inter or intra parties.
In one aspect, it reflects how strong the practice of democracy in Malaysia is, as happened before March 2020 or right before the PRN Sabah 2020, to the point that such views are supported by Article 10(1)(c) of the constitution relating to freedom of speech, gather, and associate. In another aspect, it illustrates the dwindling ethics of Malaysian politicians that they tend to set aside the party’s principles and ideology, and prioritise their interests in the name of the rakyat. Both spectrums resulted in an enormous impact on the political stability, economic progress, and slowness of development in Malaysia.
