THIS year s Goring 10km race has raised £6,000 for the village primary school despite taking place virtually.
More than 200 villagers took part in the “10K Your Way” challenge last Sunday in which they ran, walked, rowed or cycled the distance at a pace they were comfortable with.
Those doing it outdoors chose their own routes, competing alone or in their family “bubbles”, while others raced indoors using rowing machines, elliptical trainers or exercise bikes.
The usual event, in which up to 1,200 entrants run a 10km circuit of the countryside to the north of the village, couldn t happen because of the coronavirus pandemic.

THE headteacher of Goring Primary School has already beaten her £1,000 target after starting a challenge to run 100km during March.
Angela Wheatcroft is raising money for the school’s parent-teacher association and promoting the Goring 10K Your Way, a “virtual” version of the village’s annual 10km race, which will be held on March 28.
Participants are encouraged to run the distance by themselves or in family bubbles to support the assocation, which is organising the event to raise money for the school.

THE headteacher of Goring primary is hoping to run 100km in two months to raise money for the school.
Angela Wheatcroft also hopes to publicise the Goring 10K Your Way virtual challenge on March 28, which the parent-teacher association is organising to replace the usual 10km race that it holds.
The annual event, which attracts up to 1,200 runners, had to be scrapped this year because of the coronavirus pandemic so the Wallingford Road school was set to miss out.
Proceeds from previous races have paid for new IT facilities, playground markings and a new £30,000 minibus.
