Int l Women s Day: Give greater roles to women, experts tell FG, states – Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 13 March 2021 Experts have called on the federal and state governments to accord more legal, political and financial rights to Nigerian women as critical players in the national development. Speaking at an event organised by the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Women’s Wing) to mark International Women’s Day in Lagos on Friday, they urged women to challenge the barriers to socioeconomic and political growth. In a lecture titled, ‘Women, Family Law and Property Rights,’ a chartered arbitrator, Dr Adeyemi Agbelusi, said despite the right to freedom from discrimination and the right to own property enshrined in Sections 42 and 43, respectively, of the 1999 Constitution, property right was an area many women were worried about.

Emuwa, Saraki mourn Leadership publisher, Nda-Isaiah Joh Alechenu and Dayo Ojerinde The Chairman, Punch Nigeria Limited, Mrs Angela Emuwa, and a former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki ,have  expressed shock at the death of the publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah. Emuwa, in a statement on Monday, commiserated with the Nda-Isaiah family, as well as the management and staff of the Leadership newspaper group. The statement partly reads, “It was with shock that I received the news of the passing of the founder and chairman of Leadership newspaper group, Mr Sam Ndah Isaiah. His untimely exit, at the relatively young age of 58, is not just a huge loss to the media industry but also a loss to our country which he loved dearly and passionately.
