E. L. Meyers Speech and Debate Team seniors Patrick Franckiewicz and Tio Marello were finalists in the News Broadcasting competition at the Pennsylvania High School Speech League state championships held virtually on March 13-14, placing fifth in the final round. In the competition, Franckiewicz and Marello competed both with scripts they were required to write, covering international and national news and features, as well as with scripts prepared for the contestants by the tournament directors. Also competing for Meyers at the state championships was junior Angel Estrella, who debated both sides of the resolution, “Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee universal child care,” in Lincoln—Douglas debate.
