Rep. Ivan Blanco passes away

REPRESENTATIVE Ivan A. Blanco, the House Republican leader, passed away Friday afternoon. He was 45. Blanco attended a Developmental Disabilities Council meeting at the Aqua Resort Friday morning. Variety was told that  after lunchtime, the Precinct 3 lawmaker suddenly felt weak, and then became unresponsive. He was rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead at past 1:30 p.m. One of Blanco s colleagues in the House, Rep. Angel Demapan, described him as “beloved  by everyone.” “His death is big loss to the  Commonwealth He was an honorable statesman, a very loving father and a very devoted husband.” Demapan added, “I just ask that we keep his family and his soul in our prayers during this very difficult time.”

OPINION | Rota welcomes site transformations, tourism innovation

AS Rota warmly welcomed the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers with its famous “Aluf” or hand wave, its residents and leaders also welcomed our initiatives and projects, embracing the unified movement to improve the quality of life in the Marianas. Over the weekend, Rota saw the transformation of its youth center and basketball court, the heart of sports and community activities for residents. Through GCEA’s Public Private Partnership initiative, the two sites located in Sinapalo were cleaned and repainted. The basketball court’s concrete bleachers and youth center’s parking lot that were stained were also cleaned and received a fresh coat of paint. To spruce up the facilities,  Rep. Groundbreaking held for Airport Road project

A GROUNDBREAKING ceremony was held Thursday for the enhancement of Tun Herman or Airport Road in lower Dandan. The project extends for 1.5 miles from Route 31 Chalan Monsignor Guerrero to its intersection with Route 304 Flame Tree Road. The proposed repairs will involve graded anti-skid pavement, pavement markings, installation of guardrail and permanent traffic signs. Repairs of the existing roadway will begin 300 feet from the intersection of Route 31 and end at Exploring Drive, a distance of approximately 4,200 feet. Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios assembled a working group of key government personnel to push federal highway projects that would better serve residents’ transportation needs and accessibility on roads in need of repair.
