Angel Branch didn’t know where to turn when her fiancé unexpectedly died 3½ years ago, leaving her to raise their two children. As she worked through the emotional turmoil, the Scranton woman remained committed to ensuring her children’s physical and emotional needs were met. There were few people she could turn to for guidance, however. “Being a single mom, you don’t have a lot of resources,” she said. “People don’t understand what you are going through.” Enter Donna Nelson, founder of the “Adopt a Single Mom Project,” a grassroots organization providing resources and support for single mothers raising children ages 18 and under in Northeast Pennsylvania.
