Athletics Malta chief keen to expose athletes to higher-level competition

Athletics Malta held its annual general meeting last weekend during which the organisation looked back at its achievements and challenges throughout the past year while paving the way forward for its next 12 months of activity. Addressing this year’s AGM, Andy Grech, Athletics Malta president, who was celebrating his first year at the helm of the organisation, explained how the main focus for the upcoming 12 months will be to increase athletes’ exposure to a higher level of competition. This will be achieved through increased participation in international events and training camps as well as by attracting higher-level international athletes to train and run in Malta.

Athletics Malta secure assistance from European body and Balkan federation

Athletics Malta has concluded two important international agreements that will secure a brighter future for the sport in Malta and provide better opportunities for Maltese athletes abroad. The agreements were reached during a visit of an Athletics Malta delegation led by president Andy Grech and secretary-general Aldrin Cassar in Sofia, Bulgaria, where they met high-ranking officials from European Athletics and the Balkan Athletic Federation. The first agreement was reached with the Balkan Athletic Federation, which will see Malta being nominated for membership within this same body.   Independent journalism costs money. Watch: Athletics Malta table ambitious plans to transform Marsa Stadium

Athletics Malta has launched a major infrastructural investment project at the Matthew Micallef St John Athletics Stadium in Marsa with the aim of creating a world-class venue for local athletes while supporting the association’s drive at transforming the area into an international sporting hub. The investment was announced by Andy Grech, Athletics Malta president, in the presence of Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, as well as officials from the Maltese Olympic Committee and Sport Malta. Interestingly, there are four current track and field athletes behind the project, namely Paula Grech, Dario Mangion, Julian Mifsud and Luke Micallef.
