The VPD-led Taskforce Tourniquet comprised several joint enforcement projects dubbed Projects Tariff, Temper, Triplet and Territory. It was launched in 2017 to combat increasing gang violence.

Police say the convictions resulting from the task force’s investigations have led to a period of decreased shootings and murders between 2018 and 2020.
The 27 convicted gangsters were “significant players in the gang conflict between March 2017 and August 2018,” said Const. Tania Visintin at a news conference on Friday, the same day the final guilty plea related to the task force was entered in court.
