Poland reports 946 new coronavirus cases on Friday, death toll at 117

Andrzej Lange/PAP Poland recorded 946 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 117 deaths over the past 24h to Friday morning, against 1,230 cases reported on Thursday, data released by the Health Ministry shows. The healthcare system is now handling 5,909 Covid-19 hospitalisations, down from 6,377 recorded the day prior, including 805 patients on ventilators, against the total of 2,495 ventilators available, the Health Ministry reported. The health ministry also reported that 81,171 people are under quarantine. So far, 2,634,711 people have recovered. In all, 19,175,171 Poles have already received jabs against Covid-19, with 6,308,403 of those having been fully vaccinated, according to data posted on the official government website, gov.pl.

Poland sees first Brazilian Covid-19 mutations

The highly infectious strain fuelled a devastating surge in Brazil last month. We have detected three cases of the Brazilian variant. These cases are in Silesia, Adam Niedzielski told a press conference on Thursday. New infections in Poland are now dominated by the British mutation of the virus, which is more infectious than the original variant. The British strain started spreading in the country from the beginning of this year.

The healthcare system is now handling 20,981 Covid-19 hospitalisations, up from 20,974 recorded the day prior, including 2,609 patients on ventilators, against the total of 4,225 ventilators available, the Health Ministry reported. The health ministry also reported that 139,205 people are under quarantine. So far, 2,536,931 people have recovered. In all, 11,944,959 Poles have already received jabs against Covid-19, with 2,971,205 of those having had both doses of the vaccine, according to data posted on the official government website, gov.pl.

Over 40 percent satisfied with president s performance - poll

Andrzej Lange/PAP In all, 44 percent of the respondents to a CBOS poll expressed satisfaction with the performance of Polish President Andrzej Duda, up by 2 percentage points from March. Forty-six percent said they were unhappy with their president s performance. In comparison with the previous poll, the percentage of people giving the president a negative assessment fell by 3 percentage points. Sixty percent voiced a negative opinion about the work of Sejm (lower house of Polish parliament) while only 24 percent said they were happy with its performance, nearly unchanged month on month. The work of senators was praised by 32 percent, up by 3 percentage points, and criticised by 45 percent, down from 48 percent in March.
