In March this year, Lamborghini announced that driver and racer Andrey Leontyev had taken the Urus for several drives on the Lake Baikal in Siberia, setting two new world records in the process. The Urus was the fastest SUV on ice, but it had also achieved the highest speed over a distance of 1 km (0.62 miles) from a standing start.
In March, Lamborghini proudly announced that it had set a brand new top speed record on ice. One might be left wondering if there’s anything in it apart from marketing, though.
Beyond making headlines, there are good reasons to set records like this one, especially for an SUV. Set atop the world’s largest fresh water and deepest lake at the Days of Speed on Baikal Ice, the Urus was driven by Russia’s Andrey Leontyev who sees ice-driving as an off-grid test lab.
“Automotive engineers can see how their products behave when pushed to the limit on a surface that is ten times more slippery than asphalt in torrential rain,” Leontyev said. “If you manage to stay in control of a vehicle that’s racing at 300 km/h [186 mph] over natural uneven ice, jumping over bumps with the suspension constantly being pushed to the limit, then driving a car on wet or icy asphalt at 90 km/h [50 mph] doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.”

The Lamborghini Urus SUV has set a new high speed record on ice, the car has set a new 1000 metre record at an average speed of 114 km/h.
The record was set at Lake Baikal and you can see the record take place in the video below, the car reached a top speed of 298 km/h.

Last March, the Lamborghini Urus set a new top speed record at the Days of Speed event on top of frozen Lake Baikal. The Lambo Urus set the 1,000-meter record by garnering a top speed of 185.17 mph (298 km/h) and an average speed from a standing start of 70.84 mph (114 km/h), highly impressive given the icy and slippery track conditions.
Piloted by Russian racing driver and 18-time record-holder Andrey Leontyev, the Lamborghini Urus was nothing short of exceptional despite the frigid weather and strong wind gusts. “The Urus’ biggest advantage is its absolute versatility: it is extremely easy and comfortable to operate in any situation while feeling you’re a strong unit with it,” said Leontyev. “Despite its significant power, supercar roots, and supercar behavior, the Urus is forgiving and obliges the pilot.”
