Mahoning Valley school districts are expected to receive slightly more than $39 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds this spring.
This is a second installment of relief funds provided by the federal government for hard-hit school districts since the coronavirus pandemic began in early 2020. In the last allocation of ESSER funds provided to school districts in 2020, schools in Mahoning County received $9,157,835.
The final allocations are expected to be released in the next several weeks, according to Ohio Board of Education officials. Once allocated, the funds must be used by Sept. 30, 2023.
School districts are being awarded based on the percent of total Title 1 funds they receive.
