Jacob Hancher’s life after he was shot while responding to a call last year. SPECIAL COVERAGE | Hancher and Ptl. Andrew Wangstad were the first to respond to a domestic call on Oct. 3 in the 400 block of 14th Avenue South when shots were fired. Hancher was killed as a result of the shooting, while Wangstad, was shot in the leg.

(WMBF) - A nonprofit is now providing extra help to an officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department who was injured in a shooting last October. Wangstad had served for one year with MBPD prior to the shooting, according to officials. Running 4 Heroes is based around 12-year-old Zechariah Cartledge, who runs with a flag to honor fallen officers across the country. The organization also says he will travel to Myrtle Beach this weekend to personally present Wangstad with the check.
