Four New York City parking garages are being shuttered because they may be unsafe. Following a deadly collapse of a parking structure in downtown Manhattan earlier this month, the city launched a sweep of dozens of parking structures throughout its five boroughs. The New York City Department of Buildings says the four structures are showing signs of deterioration in concrete and now pose an immediate threat to public safety. Two of the structures were in Manhattan and the other two were in Brooklyn. Some of the structures have apartments above them but officials say their findings currently pose no risks to residential areas.
