Weather hits local vaccine supply; Some appointments rescheduled
UPDATE: The health department’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic at East Henderson High has been canceled. Anyone who was scheduled to receive their first dose is asked to come to East Henderson High on Friday, Feb. 19 at their original appointment time.
Anyone who was scheduled to receive their second dose is asked to come to East Henderson Monday, Feb. 22 at their original appointment time.
Anyone who needs to cancel their appointment or requires additional assistance can contact the Call Center at 828-585-4700, Option 1. The Call Center will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

Recent diversion efforts by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services have caused shortages for some vaccine providers across the state.
Pardee UNC Health Care announced Wednesday that the vaccine allocation for the upcoming week that was originally anticipated will not be received. As a result, first dose vaccine appointments scheduled for the week of Feb. 1 will be rescheduled, according to a news release from Pardee. All second dose appointments will be kept.
NCDHHS has recently shifted a large portion of doses toward large-scale vaccination events, including events at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Bank of America Stadium.

While most teachers have to wait for their COVID-19 shots, a few districts have offered vaccines to their staff.

With many North Carolina teachers still weeks, if not months, away from receiving COVID-19 vaccines, a few districts have already helped give shots to hundreds of staff members.
Jackson County Public Schools in Western North Carolina dismissed students early Jan. 22 so staff could get vaccinated. Since last week, public school employees in Rutherford County, Swain County and Union County received their first vaccine doses as well. In the Triad, Davie County Schools will make shots available to employees on Wednesday.
Here s how to contact vaccine providers in Henderson County
As of the past week, the Henderson County Department of Public Health, Pardee UNC Health Care, AdventHealth Hendersonville and Blue Ridge Health are the only providers in Henderson County holding mass vaccination clinics for the general public.
All available COVID-19 vaccination appointments with each provider quickly book up. You may be unable to book an appointment online or over the phone if appointments are all filled, so the public is encouraged to check back with providers frequently.
Local call centers are flooded with thousands of calls to fill just hundreds of appointments. Distributors in Henderson County have to count on the state for all allotments and are given short notice on updated supplies.
