This pilot scheme – launched in early September by the Scottish Government – is intended to provide funding for farmers and crofters to purchase equipment that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support a shift to more sustainable farming and land use. The initial budget of £10m has now been increased to £18m to meet the scheme s high demand, and will be taken from the £20m capital funding pot which was allocated to the Agricultural Transformation Programme for year 2020-21. Purchases can be made of specific equipment, from a pre-determined list, up to a total value of £20,000 per farming business.
