Conservative election candidates chosen in Ilkley

TWO Ilkley residents have been selected by the Conservatives to stand in the May 6 local elections. David Nunns, a resident of Ben Rhydding for the last 40 years, is standing for the Bradford Council elections. Running for Ilkley Town Council is Andrew Loy, a recent Oxford University graduate, born and bred in town. David said: “I want to stand in the forthcoming Council elections, to try and ensure that Ilkley remains a vibrant town. “It must retain the local businesses which the community has come to rely on, as many of the smaller businesses are now starting to decline at the expense of the corporate brands.”

Ilkley residents will end up paying twice for unwanted speed bumps

I WELCOME Ilkley Town Council’s clarification that Bradford Council would ultimately be responsible for the 20mph zones and readily accept that the language of my letter in the Gazette last week could have recognised this point more clearly. Indeed, why is the town council proposing to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a project which is Bradford’s responsibility? Ilkley residents will end up paying twice for unwanted speed bumps. The town council should not hand over a penny extra of ratepayers’ money until Bradford spends our fair share of council tax in Ilkley. It is vital that there is a proper public consultation. A subcommittee meeting attended by five members of the public is no substitute.
