Wildschutt Wins FSU s Third ACC Individual Title

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –  The No.19/10 Florida State cross country teams captured four All-ACC honors at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships at the Burke Golf Course on Friday. Adriaan Wildschutt dominated the men’s 8k, bringing home the ACC men’s individual title for the third time in school history with a time of 23:07.0.  Andrew Lemoncello is FSU’s only other champion, winning back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005. “I wanted to come out here and perform well for my team,” Wildschutt said. “I knew there are a bunch of good runners from Notre Dame in the race, who I respect, and I knew I had a shot at this title. From the first 1k I realized it was a good pace and if I could keep it up for another 3k I should be good, and I would take off.” His teammate Ahmed Muhumed won bronze, crossing the line at 23:24.0. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  –   For the fourth time this season, Florida State cross country runner Adriaan Wildschutt was named the ACC Men’s XC Performer of the Week. The Ceres, South Africa, native placed second in the men’s 8K at the FSU Invite/Pre-National meet, breaking the 23-minute barrier, crossing the line in 22:49.4. “Adriaan had an incredible race,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “He ran a rare sub 23:00, crushed his school record, and took the defending national champion to the final 50 meters. He made the ACC proud with this race and its great that they’re honoring him.” His four Performer of the Week honors set the school record for a single season, besting the three by Andrew Lemoncello in 2004. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  –   The Florida State cross country programs moved up in the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll in week four, as the list was released on Tuesday. Senior Adriaan Wildschutt was named the ACC Men’s XC Performer of the Week for the third time this season. He was also named the National Athlete of the Week for NCAA Division I Cross Country by the USTFCCCA on Monday, following his win at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame on Friday. His three Performer of the Week honors in a single season tie the school record set by Andrew Lemoncello in 2004. Wildschutt also has five in his career, which is second behind Lemocello’s six.
