Auckland High Court Justice Geoffrey Venning has reserved his decision on granting an injunction to put a temporary halt on Auckland Council’s Queen St upgrade of its pilot pedestrian project, due to start next week. Lobby group Save Queen Street Society (SQSS) – made up of business interests and commercial landlords, including property owner Andrew Krukziener – was seeking the interim injunction ahead of a substantive hearing over the future of Queen St’s pedestrianisation. Documents for the interim injunction were filed yesterday and the full hearing is yet to be scheduled.

Tomorrow, the lobby group Save Queen Street will file papers in the Auckland High Court, seeking an injunction to stop all council work on the street. The Save Queen Street Society (SQSS) advised Auckland Council last week that it would seek the injunction, but the two sides then agreed to talks and the legal action was put on hold. The lobby group is also seeking a judicial review of council decisions about the street during and after the first Covid-19 lockdown.
